[00:00.03]”Every Little Thing”
[00:00.77]That’s the name of Carly Pearce’s debut album which is available now
[00:04.55]I am so excited to be sitting here, talking to her about this album
[00:07.72]And we have actually come up to the title track
[00:10.32]I think everybody is familiar with this song
[00:12.88]I know, uhm, one thing that I hear from every single country artist
[00:16.30]Is the need to be honest and authentic
[00:18.90]And to write your own truth in your songs
[00:21.43]And I remember talking to you about this song early on
[00:24.36]And when it first kind of got discovered by a radio person
[00:27.86]In some ways, you were thinking
[00:29.69]”Woah, that’s too personal, I can’t put that out on the radio”
[00:32.52]But I’m wondering, is this song sort of maybe
[00:34.88]What brought home that understanding of
[00:38.18]”Okay, this is what my album needs to be filled with”
[00:40.56]”Songs that maybe are vulnerable and honest and just speaking my truth”
[00:45.03]For sure I think that
[00:46.53]I’ve always known the type of artist that I wanted to be
[00:48.94]But it’s hard to execute it
[00:51.87]And it’s hard to really find the, the co-writers and the musicians and the producer
[00:57.45]That can kind of mesh it all together
[00:59.49]And bring out what you’re heart and your mind is trying to convey
[01:03.28]And when this song happened
[01:05.84]I certainly didn’t think that it was going to be my debut single
[01:09.56]Let alone even something that people would hear until way into my career
[01:13.50]Almost how “The House That Built Me” was from Miranda (right)
[01:16.28]Kind of felt like I needed a couple albums
[01:18.09]Before people would artistically get this (right)
[01:20.81]But it was so, of all of the songs that I have written, up to that point
[01:25.57]Was the song that I loved the most
[01:27.50]And was like, “Man, that’s me”
[01:29.95]And I think that as we started to see what “Every Little Thing” was doing
[01:34.24]And as we were putting together the songs for the album
[01:36.95]It allowed us to be a lot more broad in our selection
[01:42.77]And you know, busbee and I again, have been writing for three years
[01:45.17]And you’ll find a lot of the songs on there are
[01:48.04]He and I co-writes just because he got me
[01:49.87]He finally, out of everybody in town, he really understood my vision
[01:53.57]And it was really exciting and inspiring that
[01:57.58]Something that was so true
[01:59.44]Was what kind of like snowballed everything else to happen
[02:02.33]So I wanted to make sure, as a songwriter and as an artist
[02:04.78]And just as the production of the record was coming to be
[02:07.86]That it was as unique and vulnerable and true to me as that song
[02:12.32]Even the songs that I didn’t write (right)
[02:14.57]Well and I was gonna ask you
[02:15.52]I mean it’s one thing to find the courage to open up in the writer’s room
[02:19.66]And be willing to lay your truth out there
[02:22.30]So that you can write such an honest song
[02:24.47]But then it’s another
[02:25.93]To take that vulnerability a step further and put this song on an album
[02:29.96]And yet, still further
[02:30.96]To stand up on a stage in front of thousands of people
[02:34.11]To, uh, bare your soul up there
[02:37.09]Is that, I guess for a lack of a better term, that path of vulnerability
[02:40.73]Is it ever difficult or do you ever find yourself maybe like holding back for a minute
[02:46.32]And then realising like, “Okay, I’ve just gotta put it out there”
[02:49.27]And because I would be terrified to be that vulnerable and open
[02:53.22]It’s interesting now
[02:55.03]Because I feel like just everybody
[02:58.24]Whether it’s in radio or in the industry or fans
[03:01.43]They know everything about this relationship except for his name (right, right)
[03:05.89]So it’s an interesting
[03:07.69]That’s the about the only thing I’ve been able to keep kind of quiet (yeah)
[03:11.39]But yeah, I mean there are moments where it does feel kind of crazy
[03:14.76]That I’m baring something so private
[03:16.96]And supposed to be such like a personal thing
[03:19.33]But I think through all of the stories that I’ve heard of people just connecting to it
[03:24.34]Whether they’ve lost someone to something much greater than a heartbreak
[03:28.64]Or anything like that
[03:29.92]It’s just made me go, “Okay, it’s okay”
[03:32.47]It may be uncomfortable for me at times
[03:34.28]Just to really realise what I’m doing (right), ’cause I did live it
[03:38.00]But people are connecting to it
[03:39.04]And it might be able to help somebody through it
[03:41.50]Now, have you written any songs, where you’re like
[03:43.37]”Woah, that is just a little bit too out there
[03:45.97]Maybe not gonna put this one out on the record”
[03:47.87]I have some that are really, really personal
[03:51.07]That I think my publisher and busbee would tell you
[03:53.93]Are almost too desperate to be
[03:55.80]They’re like, “No, that’s not you, that’s not you”
[03:58.23]I’m like, “Alright, fine”
[03:59.50]But I mean “Every Little Thing” is about as raw and real (yeah) as it can get
[04:03.53]Year of Release: 2017
